Fizz, a cricket tea, plenty of enthusiasm and some great coaching ensured the Holt’s first ever women’s cricket taster session was a success!
The evening, on Wednesday October 2, was funded by the ECB’s Raising the Game campaign which aims to open the sport up to groups that are traditionally less represented within the sport.
BSCC women’s team acted as hosts and coaches for the event.
Bridget Culver, BSCC Women’s player said: “Around 20 new faces (along with several established players) attended the latest BSCC Ladies Taster event. As the sun set the ladies enjoyed a mixture of fielding drills and a modified game scenario. There were laughs and concentration a plenty as they practised the art of catching, throwing, fielding, batting, running, calling, teamwork…
“The range of ages and abilities varied, but what was apparent was that all were keen on learning more about the game and on enjoying the camaraderie that team sports bring. Afterwards, this was supported by a glass of fizz and a ‘cricket tea’ in the new clubhouse, where the talk was as diverse as the plans for the winter cricket league, how to hold a bat and how to get a discount at the bar!
“BSCC Ladies can’t wait for the winter league to start and after that a further taster day and the warmer summer evenings of 2025.”
