This month the club held the first of our table cricket sessions in partnership with CEDA, an Exeter based charity supporting disabled people.
Table cricket is an adapted version of cricket that is played on a table tennis table with teams of up six taking it in turn to bowl or bat. Thanks to fundraising over the past 12 months the club now has two fantastic table tennis tables for exactly this purpose.
The sessions will run fortnightly at the club and are another milestone in pursuing our vision to provide access for all to cricket – we are one of only a handful of clubs in the South West to have ECB ‘Disability Champion’ status.
Coaches from Devon Cricket Federation were on hand to coach and support those who attended the session which was a great success!
Jenna Tolley CEDA Activity Hub Leader said: “Our supported people gain tremendous benefit from joining the cricket club for table cricket. Where many of our community experience very limited opportunities to try new activities, it is often further diminished by being unable to access the exciting facilities that the wider community has to offer. Sometimes this is due to financial constraints, staffing and support limitations or simply inaccessibility of buildings and spaces.
“The accessibility of the cricket club and the passion and skill of the staff supporting our people have shown has enabled our supported people to access an exciting environment and experience cricket in a way that is accessible and engaging for all. It really supports the positive wellbeing of all that get to enjoy it.
