January has been a sad month for the BSCC family with the loss of two much-loved club faces, Steve Richardson and Dave Williams.
At 2pm on Friday friends and family will gather at St Peter’s Church Budleigh Salterton to say farewell to BSCC Stalwart Steve, or Snatch as he was fondly known to many. This will be followed by a reception here at the club at 3pm. Those attending our encouraged to car share due to the high numbers expected. PLEASE NOTE the Holt Bar and Terrace will be closed to the public all day on Friday due to this event.
For those unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed using the link https://www.youtube.com/live/9ipUxbgoVPM
Steve was a BSCC stalwart for more than 20 years with huge input into the community league as well as loyal service as club maintenance and buildings manager at Ottermouth - he and his wife Fran were made honorary life members in 2022 in recognition of their dedication to the club. Steve’s family have set up a fund in his memory and donations will go towards funding a live stream capability so that games hosted here at The Holt can be watched online.
Donations to this fund can be made at https://steverichardson.muchloved.com/
The club is also mourning the loss of ex Budleigh fast bowler Dave “Launchpad” Williams. Dave, a much-loved and respected player, played for our 1st & 2nd XI in the 1980s, in the early 1990’s he moved with his job at Lloyds Bank to South Devon but always received a warm welcome when he came back to Ottermouth to play odd games mainly in connection with memorial matches for BSCC legend Andy Carter who he played with at the club.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at St James’ Church Teignmouth at 11am on Tuesday, February 4, followed by a reception at Teignmouth RFC (of which Dave was made a life member for his support on and off the pitch over many years).
