Dawn walkers raise £1,400 for The Samaritans

We were so proud to see 50 walkers set off in the darkness from The Holt early on Saturday morning - even prouder that they raised more than £1,400 for charity in the process!
The club signed a team up to walk 5km at sunrise in a route that started and finished at the clubhouse as part of its bid to stand in solidarity with anyone facing mental health struggles and to remove the stigma of talking about such battles.
Our walkers raised funds, through sponsorship and donations, for the Samaritans so the charity can be there for people when they need it most, the event was part of a national effort - The Dawn Walk and was one of a series taking place across the country.
After their early start walkers enjoyed catching up over breakfast in the clubhouse. The event followed the club’s first Comrade’s Curry Club, held on World mental health day on Thursday Oct 10, a men’s only evening held to provide a welcoming space and to promote companionship and conversation.
We were thrilled that the evening was so well attended and hope to make it a regular event!
The club’s drive to spread awareness and start discussions about mental health, particularly among men, followed the tragic suicide of England cricketer Graham Thorpe who battled with depression.
